USA Swimming National Championship--where world records are broken (Brendan Hanson broke two)--- and where Connecticut's fastest athletes compete against the world's best. CSI competitors at nationals were:
Jessica Brookman, SNCO, 50M freestyle,
Kelly Hannigan, GYWD, 400M IM
Kristen Frost, SNCO, 200, 400, 800M freestyle.
Joining these veteran national qualifiers were 14 year old Alicia Mathieu, SNCO and 15 year old Eric Ress, SNCO. Alicia swam a 8:49.98 in the 800M free, achieving an Olympic Trials qualifying time and breaking the 13/14 and Senior CSI Resident record. (Alicia then broke these records again at Junior Nationals.) Eric Ress swam a 2:07.12 in the 200M backstroke, re-qualifying as a national swimmer.

Immediately following its National Championship, USA Swimming conducts a Junior National Championship for athletes 18 years old or younger. The time standards are tough, but this year ten CSI athletes attended, up from two athletes that attended last year's inaugural meet.
Standing out, among the fine performances, were Olympic Trials (OT) qualifying times achieved by Katie Gardocki (BEAR) and Alicia Mathieu (SNCO). Katie achieved a OT time in the 400M Freestyle with a 4:18.13. This 5th place finish also broke the CSI 13/14 and Senior Resident Records. Katie also achieved USA Swimming National times in the 800M Freestyle (8:55.01) and the 1500M Freestyle (17:04.24). Alicia achieved a OT times in 2 events: 800M Freestyle (8:47.89) and the 400M Freestyle (4:19.29). Alicia's 1500M Freestyle swim of 16:51.66 (second place) was a USA Swimming National qualifying time. Alicia's swims broke three CSI Records: 13/14 and Senior Girls 800M Freestyle Resident Records and 13/14 1500M Freestyle Resident Record.

The Eastern Zone held its annual summer "Super-Sectional" which includes Region One and Region Two of the Eastern Zone. This meet is held in July and provides a competitive meet for athletes qualifying for national meets.
Jess Brookman, SNCO, finished 8th in the women's rankings and Phil Baity, WYW, finished 10th in the men's.

Eastern Zone All-Star Meet
August 9-12, 2006
Buffalo, NY
Connecticut's Age Group athletes long course season culminated in the Eastern Zone All-Star meet where age group athletes from the 12 Eastern Zone LSCs contest for team titles. The long course All-Star meet is a time standards meet and 115 Connecticut athletes competed bringing home an 8th-place team title.
