Eleven Connecticut Records fall at 2008 Olympic Trials

Connecticut Swimming was well represented at the USA Swimming Olympic selection meet June 29 through July 6, 2008 in Omaha, NE. Thirteen athletes turned out outstanding performances, and Mike Huffman, Official Chair, was on deck officiating. Special thanks to Jeff Allen and Mike Huffman for sending photos! 

Katie Gardocki of the Aquabears just finished representing the United States at the FINA World Youth Championships in Monterrey, Mexico.  Katie finished 3rd in the 400 meter free with a time of 4:13.00.  She also finished 2nd in the 800 meter free with a time of 8:37.08.  Both times are new 15/16 and Senior CT Resident records, breaking the records Katie set at Olympic Trials. she also swam the 1500 and went 16:48, which was a personal best by 16 seconds.

NBCOlympics.com will webcast the morning prelim sessions live from the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb. Olympic gold medalist and former National Team captain Josh Davis will be the commentator. The webcasts begin Sunday and will air each day of Trials starting at 11 a.m. Central Time.

Connecticut Boasts 13 U.S. Olympic Team Trial Qualifiers

USA Swimming will be conducting the U.S. Olympic Team Trials June 30 through July 6th in Omaha, Nebraska.  As of May 5, 2008, Connecticut has 10 qualifiers! Congratulations to our athletes and their coaches!

Deb Gruen, YALE, was named to the U.S. Paralympic Team based on her performance at the U.S. Paralympic Trials in Minnesota on April 6, 2008. Deb broke the SB6 200 breast record with a 3:36.37 and will represent the USA in Beijing, China. Congratulations, Deb!
