Coaches Educational Incentive Program: The Coaches Educational Incentive Program provides educational grants for Connecticut Swimming coaches who participate in CSI activities and events. Four grants to a maximum of $500 each, ($2000 in total), will be provided each year to eligible CSI registered coaches. Coaches will be selected to receive CSI Educational Grants based upon a pre-established Point System and other established criteria. At the end of each fiscal year, eligible coaches will be required to complete and forward to Connecticut Swimming an Application for an Educational Grant. Coaches will provide on this application a complete listing of all activities and events in which he/she participated in the fiscal year September 1, 2009 to August 31, 2010. Applications are due Friday September 25, 2010.

Message from USA Swimming regarding Non-Athlete membership for 2011: There are several pieces of legislation that will affect membership requirements for non-athletes. Because this legislation, if passed, would go into effect during the 2011 membership year, Bruce Stratton (USA Swimming Rules Committee Chair) strongly recommends that you do NOT issue any 2011 non-athlete membership cards in September. Once a card is issued, it would be impossible to retract. Please note that this does not affect coach registration.

Zone Team update for 10/U Swimmers participating in Zone Championship: There will be a team warm-up session on Tuesday 8/10 is at Montgomery Aquatic Center from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Participation is suggested, but not mandatory. Please note this warm-up venue is "indoor" pool, which is different from 10/U competition pool. Direction to the pool can be found in the meet announcement. Team will meet at front entrance at 3:45 PM.

IMPORTANT message to Zone Team swimmers' parents: Two chaperones are needed for a successful and safe Zone Team trip to Rockville, MD. We are in need of 1 male chaperone and 1 female chaperone for the 13/O age group. Please contact Randy LaRocca umpchef@sbcglobal.net or 860-796-2489. If the parents are unable to provide chaperone coverage for the 13/O age group, then the parents of these athletes will be responsible for transporting their athlete(s) to and from the Zone Age Group Championship meet.

There is a possibility that events with less than two entries may still be substituted in from next fastest swimmers who indicated the swimmer is willing to swim additional events. Any protest shall be resolved in parents meeting tonight, August 2, 2010 at Wesleyan.

Age Group Championship Thursday Evening's warm-up for 12/U events and relays is projected to begin at approximately 6:30 PM. Start time will be 30 minutes later.
If anyone is looking for one final race following the completion of the Summer 2010 pool championships, the 12&Under Open Water Series will conclude on Monday August 2, 2010 at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, CT. The 1/4 mile swim race and the 1 mile swim relay races were successfully conducted on July 26, 2010. The final event of the 2010 Summer Series is a 1/2 mile swim that will consist of two 1/4 mile swim laps. We had over 30 swimmers participate last Monday and we are hoping that we will have 50 swimmers for our final race. Swimmers must be registered members of USA Swimming to participate. Pre-registration is not required and swimmers can register up until 5:45 p.m.. on Monday night at the Amusement Park or they can sign-up on-line at Active.com. In addition, Amusement Park Ride Passes and Water Park passes for Monday night from 5 to 8 p.m. can be purchased at the Amusement Park's main office for $5.00 per person and anyone including friends, parents, family members and non swimmers can purchase park ride passes for $5.00 Any questions, please call Dave Heller at 203-509-7320. The 12/U Open Water Series will continue on Monday July 26 and Monday August 2, 2010 at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, CT. Because of thunder and lightning the 1/4 mile swim that was originally scheduled to be conducted on Monday July 19, 2010 was postponed and will now be conducted on Monday July 26 along with the 1 mile swim relay races with each swimmer swimming a 1/4 mile. Relays can be coed and made up of any age swimmers. Participants on Monday night, July 26, 2010 can swim the 1/4 mile race or the relay race or both. Swimmers must be registered members of USA Swimming to participate. David Heller of CT Swimming has organized a 12/U Open Water Swim Clinic and Series at Quassy Amusement Park (Lake Quassapaug) in Middlebury, CT. This is a great opportunity for young swimmers to learn about open water swimming in a safe, jellyfish-free lake. The clinic begins Monday July 12 at 6 pm (register at 5:30) and is free. This clinic is part of a series. Interested swimmers may also attend the following events:
Monday July 19 – ¼ mile Open Water Swim Race
Monday July 26 – 1 mile Open Water Swim Relay
Monday Aug. 2 – ½ mile Open Water Swim Race
All events begin at 6 pm. Registration and warm-up is 5:30 pm.
