MEET CLASSIFICATION:  This meet is open to all USA Swimming athletes and clubs. 

 

MEET FORMAT:  The meet will be swum as timed-finals.

 

SCRATCH PROCEDURES: Coaches will receive a scratch sheet for the session of the meet in their information packets listing all of their swimmers and events for that session. Coaches must indicate all scratches on these sheets and turn them in to the office within one half hour after the beginning of warm-up.

 

FACILITY: The Darien YMCA Pool is a 6-lane 25 yard facility with Colorado Timing, limited deck space and spectator seating of 150.  Parking can be found in front of the YMCA with designated handicapped parking spaces. 

 

DISABLED ACCESS: The Darien YMCA is handicapped accessible with a handicapped locker room and ample handicapped parking. Please contact Jason Cochran, 203.655.8228 x306 for more information and special arrangements.

SESSION TIMES:   Warm-up       12:30 pm

                                   Meet Start     1:30 pm

 

WARM-UPS: There will be designated lane assignments for warm-up sessions.  CT Swimming Warm-Up Procedures will be in effect.

 

ELIGIBILITY:  All athletes must be current athlete members of USA Swimming. Age on the first day of the meet shall determine the swimmer’s age and age group for the meet. This meet is open to swimmer 9/Under. Any swimmer who is entered and is unregistered, will be scratched from the meet until registration is completed.

 

ADAPTED SWIMMING:  Any current athlete members of USA Swimming with a disability as defined by USA Swimming Rules and Regulations may enter this meet. If modifications to USA Swimming rules are necessary then the coach or athlete must notify the meet referee of any disability prior to competition.

 

ENTRY LIMITATIONS: A swimmer may swim four individual events per day and one relay. 

 

ENTRY TIMES: Submit entry times in SCY. No Times are discouraged.

 

DEADLINES: CT entry deadline April 15, 2009 final deadline April 29, 2009.  Please send entry via email.  No hardcopy necessary unless using ‘snail’ mail only.  Mail hardcopy, if necessary and payment to the entry chairperson:

CONNECTICUT-ONLY DEADLINE: April 15, 2009.  Receipt of email entry will determine date of entry.

 

ELECTRONIC ENTRIES: Electronic entries (such as from Hy-Tek Team Manager or other team management software) that are in CL2 or SD3/SDIF format may be emailed as an attachment to the entry chair at Piranha@darien-ymca.org.  Please check that your team name, address, and contact information are listed correctly in this file.  Receipt of email will determine date of entry. 

 

ENTRY FEES: Electronic entries: $4.00 for individual events and $8.00 for relays.  Manual entries: $8.00 for individual events and $12 for relays.  No refunds will be given for entries that are accepted, or for entries that are rejected due to improper entry.

 

Outreach: Participating clubs may request, in writing, that individual entry fees be waived for Outreach athletes listed on the club's entry.   

 

 

PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS: Checks payable to Darien YMCA, Piranha Swim Club and mail to the entry chair at the address listed above.  Payment must be received by 5/6/09.

 

CUT PROTOCOL: CT teams whose entries are received by the CT deadline will be entered first, after which all other teams will be entered on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If the meet is still oversubscribed we will ask all Teams to cut entries to three events and 1 relay.  Clubs who are bumped from the meet will be notified no later than April 30th.

 

RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE CHANGES: The meet referee reserves the right to make any adjustments to the provisions of the meet announcement deemed necessary to ensure the fair and efficient running of the meet, with prior approval from Program Operations.  Clubs will be notified of cuts no later than Monday before the meet.

 

SAFETY:

  1. Diving will be prohibited during warm-ups except in specifically announced one-way sprint lanes.  There will be no diving in the warm-up and warm-down areas at any time
  2. No shaving is permitted at the competition site.
  3. No glass containers are permitted within the facility.
  4. Swimmers must be under the supervision of a coach.  If a swimmer arrives at the meet without a coach, the swimmer should notify the referee before he/she warms up.  The referee will assign the swimmer to a registered coach for warm-ups.
  5. No electronic devices with cameras are permitted in the locker rooms.

 

RULES: Current USA Swimming rules will govern all competition. 

 

TIME TRIALS: Time trials will be offered at the discretion of the meet referee if time allows.  Time trials are $6.00 for individual events.

 

TIMERS, OFFICIALS OR WORK ASSIGNMENTS: Timing assignments will be assigned based on entry size.  The Piranhas welcomes anyone who wishes to assist in officiating during this meet.  Please contact Henk Jansen.

 

DECK ACCESS: Only athletes, coaches, officials, and official meet staff actively participating in the meet are permitted on the pool deck. 

 

SCORING: There will be scoring for individuals only.

 

AWARDS: Ribbons for individual places 1-6, Relays 1-3.  Heat winner awards will be handed out.   High point medals will be presented to the top 6 girls and top 6 boys regardless of age at the conclusion of the meet.

 

CONCESSIONS: A concession stand will be available.

 

HOSPITALITY FOR COACHES AND OFFICIALS: A small coaches’ and official’s hospitality will be located on deck near the computer stand and a larger coaches’ and official’s will be located in the class room across from the concession stand.

 

DIRECTIONS:

 

I-95 Southbound:  Exit 11, US 1 (Post Rd.) Darien.  Take left at bottom of ramp onto US 1 South (West).  Go under I-95.  Go through 5 stop lights.  The YMCA will be on your left (small sign).  If you enter Stamford, you’ve traveled too far.

 

I-95 Northbound: Exit 9.  Take left at end of ramp.  Take right at light onto US 1 North (East).  Follow US 1 into Darien.  YMCA will be on your right (small sign).  If you hit a stop light, in Darien, you’ve traveled too far.

 

Merritt Parkway (Route 15): Exit 37, New Canaan & Darien.  At the end of ramp, take a right onto CT 124.  Follow CT 124 into Darien to intersection with US 1 (Post Rd.).  Turn right onto US 1.  Go through downtown Darien under RR truss and I-95.  Go through 5 stop lights.  The YMCA will be on your left (small sign).  If you end up in Stamford, you’ve traveled too far.
